Spell the grouped convex hull as ST_Collect_Agg and align the documented queries (#142)

* Spell the grouped convex hull as ST_Collect_Agg and align the documented queries

Q5 computes a convex hull over each customer-month's dropoff locations. The base class -- documented as the Sedona/Spark SQL dialect -- spelled it as a scalar over a materialized array, ST_Collect(ARRAY_AGG(...)), while SedonaDBSpatialBenchBenchmark overrode Q5 for the sole purpose of spelling it as the native aggregate ST_Collect_Agg. Sedona Spark ships that aggregate too, registered in spark/common/src/main/scala/org/apache/spark/sql/sedona_sql/expressions/st_aggregates.scala as call_udf("ST_Collect_Agg", geometry), so the base dialect can say it directly and SedonaDB needs no override. ARRAY_AGG also builds a full array of geometries per group before ST_Collect runs, where a native aggregate accumulates into one collection incrementally.

DuckDB inherits the base Q5 and DuckDB spatial has no ST_Collect_Agg -- its ST_Collect is a scalar over a GEOMETRY[], and its geometry aggregates are ST_Union_Agg and ST_Envelope_Agg -- so the ARRAY_AGG spelling moves into a DuckDB override rather than disappearing. Each override now sits where the dialect genuinely differs: DuckDB has no ST_Collect_Agg, Databricks has neither and uses ST_Union_Agg, and SedonaDB runs the base suite unmodified. The Databricks comment is reworded to name the function the base now uses; its SQL is untouched.

With the override gone, SedonaDBSpatialBenchBenchmark had no queries left and is deleted. Its docstring claimed it existed to name the dialect, but dialect() is never called anywhere in the repo -- every mention is a definition, a docstring, or an unrelated local variable, and the harness gets its engine name from a string literal at run_benchmark.py:393 and its display label from separate maps. The class is therefore repointed to the base in the two places that referenced it, print_queries.py's CLI map (keeping the "SedonaDB" key, so `print_queries.py SedonaDB` still works) and run_benchmark.py's dialect map. This widens the diff into run_benchmark.py, which is otherwise untouched; the class is only deletable because the base now carries the aggregate spelling, so it is a direct consequence of this change rather than an unrelated cleanup. DuckDB and Databricks keep their classes because they still override real queries -- DuckDB q5 and q12, Databricks q5, q7 and q12 -- so only the empty one goes. Verified mechanically: the query dict get_sql_queries("sedonadb") returns is byte-identical before and after, same sha256 over all twelve queries.

dialect() is dead code on the remaining classes too, but that predates this change and is left alone rather than widening scope further.

This requires Sedona >= 1.8.1 for the base dialect. Measured, one Spark 3.5.3 session per version: 1.7.2 and 1.8.0 reject ST_Collect_Agg with UNRESOLVED_ROUTINE, 1.8.1 and 1.9.1 accept it. Nothing in the repo pins a Sedona version, docs/requirements.txt is an unpinned apache-sedona[db] that resolves to 1.9.1, and there is no Sedona Spark runner in the benchmark harness, so no engine the harness runs is affected. DuckDB in particular is unaffected because it now carries its own override.

The documented queries had drifted from the executable ones in two ways, both fixed here. Q5 could not run at all: the Queries page and notebooks/queries.ipynb spelled it ST_Collect(ST_GeomFromWKB(...)) inside an sd.sql(...) call, and SedonaDB has no ST_Collect, so it failed at planning time with "Invalid function 'st_collect'". Q7 ran but multiplied by 111111 where every executable query divides by 0.000009; since 1/0.000009 is 111111.111..., the documented Q7 was off by exactly 1e-6 relative -- not inside the CI tolerance of rtol=1e-6 but exactly on it, its detour_ratio reaching 1.000001e-06 and passing only because numpy's isclose adds an atol term.

The divide form is the suite-wide convention and 111111 appeared only in those three doc lines. It is used by the executable SQL (print_queries.py:165,328), by every other engine implementation (geopandas_queries.py:306, spatial_polars.py:331-333, pycanopy_queries.py:260), and by wherobots/benchmark-dashboard. The repo documents it as the convention in docs/geography-queries.md:37 and its table row "| Unit conversion in SQL | / 0.000009 | none needed |", and it is structural: the radii 0.45 (50 km), 0.045 (5 km) and 0.0045 (500 m) are all exact multiples of 0.000009.

Verified. The executable SQL each engine runs is unchanged except the base dialect's Q5: comparing every query before and after with comments and whitespace normalized away, SedonaDB, DuckDB and Databricks are all unchanged, and DuckDB's Q5 is byte-identical to what it ran before. On real SF1 data all three spellings -- the new base ST_Collect_Agg, the old ARRAY_AGG, and the Databricks ST_Union_Agg form run through Sedona Spark, which also has that function -- return bitwise identical results and match benchmark/answers/sf1/q5.csv, as do SedonaDB 0.4.1 and DuckDB 1.5.5 running their own dialects. All twelve documented queries were then executed against SedonaDB 0.4.1 at SF1 over all six tables, through both the documented `import sedona.db` and the standalone sedonadb package; all twelve run and all twelve match the committed answers under rtol=1e-6 with no atol slack, which Q7 previously did not. Q7 is now bit-for-bit identical to answers/sf1/q7.csv.

Stored notebook outputs were handled per cell. Q5's is left exactly as it was, because re-executing the corrected cell reproduces it byte for byte -- the committed output was already the right data attached to code that could not produce it. Q7's genuinely changed, since the constant moves the values in the sixth significant figure, so it is regenerated from a real execution of the corrected cell; the new values match answers/sf1/q7.csv exactly where the old ones did not.

Only the aggregate spelling and the metre constant change. SELECT lists, GROUP BY, HAVING, ORDER BY and LIMIT are untouched, the Chinese page gets the identical SQL edits with its translated comments left alone except the one stating the conversion, and benchmark/answers/ is not modified.

Signed-off-by: James Willis <james@wherobots.com>

* Refresh the Q7 sample output for the / 0.000009 conversion

The SQL was aligned to divide by 0.000009 but the rendered tables still
carried values computed under * 111111 (off by the 1.000001 ratio between
the two constants). Copied verbatim from the re-executed notebook cell.

---------

Signed-off-by: James Willis <james@wherobots.com>
Add geography variants of the SpatialBench queries (#131)

All 12 SpatialBench queries are geometry: WKB columns are decoded with
ST_GeomFromWKB, predicates use planar edges, and thresholds are angles in
degrees converted by hand (0.45 "= 50 km", / 0.000009 "= 1 m"). Those factors
only hold near the equator along longitude, so a degree-based radius is a
different real-world shape in every part of a dataset that spans latitudes
-56 to 78 degrees. Areas come out in square degrees.

Geography types interpret edges as geodesics and return metric units, so add the
geography counterpart of the suite:

- notebooks/geography-queries.ipynb defines all 12 queries, each with its
real-life scenario, the spatial characteristics it exercises, and its SQL.
  Structured to mirror notebooks/queries.ipynb.
- docs/geography-queries.md is generated from that notebook with nbconvert, the
same way docs/queries.md is; docs/geography-queries.zh.md mirrors it.
- spatialbench-queries/print_geography_queries.py carries 11 of the queries for
use outside the notebook. Q12 is defined but neither carried in the module nor
executed in the notebook: it is a K-nearest-neighbour join and ST_KNN has no
  geography form yet.

Thresholds are metres, areas are square metres, and Q7 drops the degree
conversion factor entirely. Output column names, ORDER BY clauses, LIMITs and
tiebreakers are unchanged from the geometry suite.

The geography base class deliberately does not subclass SpatialBenchBenchmark,
which would silently reintroduce the geometry q12; it borrows only the
query-collection reflection. As in the geometry suite, Q5 is the one query with a
SedonaDB-specific spelling (ST_Collect_Agg vs ST_Collect(ARRAY_AGG(...))).

Verified by executing the suite at SF0.1 and SF1: Q2 matches the committed
geometry answer exactly (541), Q3 matches its row count (22), Q4 reproduces the
geometry answer row for row (258 zones, same counts, same order), and Q9's
self-join finds the same 37 building pairs. Q1, Q5, Q7 and Q8 return full result
sets with ST_Length and ST_Area in metres and square metres.

The benchmark harness, CI matrix and ground-truth answers are untouched: the two
suites need separate answer sets, since a 0.45 degree planar radius and a 50 000 m
geodesic radius select different rows by construction.

The mkdocs nav labels the two pages "SpatialBench Queries (Geometry)" and
"SpatialBench Queries (Geography)" so the pair reads as one set. This renames
the existing geometry entry, which was "Queries" in the main nav and
"SpatialBench Queries" in the framework block, and updates the zh translations
to match.

Notebook cells carry ids, as nbformat 4.5 requires and as notebooks/queries.ipynb
already does; without them nbconvert emits MissingIDFieldWarning and warns that
it will become an error. The link to the geometry suite uses the published URL
rather than a relative queries.md, which resolves to a nonexistent
notebooks/queries.md when read from the notebook; the zh page points at the zh
build of that page.
Add SF10 ground-truth answers (#129)

* Dump normalized results unconditionally when --result-dir is set

Dumping reuses each query's timed run (no extra execution), so gating it on
committed answers already existing served no purpose and prevented bootstrapping
answers for a new scale factor. Always dump when --result-dir is given; the verify
job independently skips scale factors that have no committed answers. Drops the now
unused --answers-dir option.

Part of #126.

* Free disk space before running each benchmark query

SF10 queries can spill several GB to disk; on the standard runner SedonaDB's Q5
(convex-hull aggregation) failed with "No space left on device". Reclaim space from
preinstalled toolchains (dotnet, android, CodeQL, ...) before each query so
disk-heavy SF10 queries can run.

Part of #126.

* Add SF10 ground-truth answers

Commits the SedonaDB reference results for scale factor 10
(benchmark/answers/sf10/q{1..12}.{parquet,csv}), produced by the benchmark run in
CI (the --result-dir dumps), not on a local machine. The type-faithful parquet is
reconstructed from the CI csv dumps using the SF1 schema (same queries, same
column types across scale factors).

SF10 was generated with SedonaDB 0.3.0. SedonaDB 0.4.0 cannot compute Q5 at SF10 —
its grouped convex-hull aggregation spills >100 GB and aborts
(apache/sedona-db#1077) — while 0.3.0 computes it in modest space. The two versions
produce identical results for the other 11 queries at SF10, so the values are
version-independent; only Q5's feasibility differs.

The correctness verify job cross-checks all engines against these answers.

Part of #126.

* Address review: duration tolerance, dump robustness, conditional disk purge

- Duration precision (verify_results.py): SedonaDB truncates interval averages to
milliseconds, so a duration column (`*_seconds`) can differ from a full-precision
  engine by up to ~1 ms — e.g. SF10 Q3 answer 7.666 vs 7.666666667. Apply a ~1 ms
absolute tolerance to duration columns; other float metrics keep the tight
default. No fixtures regenerated (the values are the oracle's).

- Dump robustness (run_benchmark.py): now that dumping is unconditional, remove any
stale dump for the queries being run before writing (dump filenames aren't
scale-scoped, so a reused --result-dir could otherwise mix scales), and fail the
run if result capture was requested (--result-dir) but a successful query produced
no dump — so a bootstrapping run can't pass silently on a failed capture.

- Conditional disk purge (benchmark.yml): the reclaim step now runs only for scale
factors >= 10 (it added ~1 min to every SF1 job for no benefit) and runs before
cache restore and dependency install so the space is available to them too.

Part of #126.
Verify engine correctness in a downstream job that reuses benchmark results (#128)

* Verify engine correctness in a downstream job that reuses benchmark results

Adds a correctness check that reuses the benchmark run instead of re-executing
queries in a second workflow: the benchmark jobs already run every
(engine, query, scale factor), so they now also dump each result, and a
downstream verify job compares those dumps to the committed ground-truth answers
(benchmark/answers/sf<sf>). A mismatch — or a result that reported success but is
missing — fails CI.

run_benchmark.py:
  - New --result-dir: reuse the timed run's result (no extra execution) to write
<engine>_<query>_result.csv. DuckDB captures column names during the timed run
so its fetchall result becomes a DataFrame without re-running; other engines
reuse the DataFrame they already return. Normalizes durations -> seconds,
decimals/object-decimals -> float, timestamps -> datetime. Writes csv only, so
no pyarrow filesystem is touched inside a SedonaDB worker; pandas/numpy stay out
of the module top to preserve the import-order isolation. Gated on committed
answers existing for the scale factor, so SF10 (no answers yet) does no extra
    work.

benchmark/verify_results.py (new, engine-free):
  - Derives comparison semantics from the canonical answer schema (the type-faithful
q<n>.parquet): integer keys/counts, timestamps and strings match exactly, and
    only floating-point metrics use rtol/atol.
  - The LIMIT-boundary-tie exception is restricted to eligible capped LIMIT queries
and only tolerates a final-row identity swap where every float ordering metric
still ties within tolerance — never a single-row/non-LIMIT query or a numeric
    difference.
  - Result-presence semantics: reported-success-but-no-dump fails (a silent dump
failure); explicit timeout/error/OOM is tolerated; a framework that produced no
record at all (its whole benchmark job failed, e.g. an install error) is shown
as "no result" but does not fail the gate — it left no answer that could be
wrong, and its own red job surfaces it.
  - Robust by construction: a result that cannot be read/compared becomes a warning
cell, never a crash, so one broken framework can't take down the summary.
  - Renders a per-engine correctness table to the job summary and exits non-zero on
    any real failure.

benchmark.yml:
  - Engine jobs pass --result-dir and upload the result csv alongside the timing
json; pandas added to the Spatial Polars / PyCanopy jobs.
  - New verify-correctness job: needs the benchmark jobs (runs even if some failed),
installs pandas + pyarrow, runs verify_results.py, always publishes the table to
the job summary (with a fallback note if none was produced), and fails CI on a
    mismatch.

Part of #126.

* Fix engine query implementations flagged by the correctness check

The correctness verification (verify_results.py) surfaced five (engine, query)
results that diverged from the SedonaDB/DuckDB ground-truth answers. All are real
implementation bugs, not tolerance issues:

Q5 was missing a whole column. GeoPandas and PyCanopy computed the repeat-customer
trip count for the `> 5` filter but dropped it from the output; the reference (and
the answer) return it as `dropoff_count`. Add it to the projection.

Spatial Polars Q7 used the wrong metre/degree constant. It multiplied the
straight-line degree distance by 111111, while the reference divides by 0.000009
(= x111111.111...); the ~1e-6 gap tripped the tolerance. Use /0.000009 to match the
reference and the other engines.

PyCanopy Q6/Q10 lost precision on avg_distance. t_distance is decimal(15,5), and a
decimal mean stays at scale 5 and rounds the result (e.g. 0.00086 vs 0.000865);
SedonaDB and the other engines average in float. Cast t_distance to float before
averaging.

Verified at SF1 against the committed answers: GeoPandas Q5, Spatial Polars Q7 and
PyCanopy Q10 now match. PyCanopy Q5/Q6 use the same fixes (column projection and the
identical float cast) but need PyCanopy 0.3.3 (Linux-only wheel) to run, so they are
verified by CI rather than locally.

Part of #126.

* Harden the correctness check against review feedback

Four fixes so the correctness gate cannot pass without genuinely verifying results:

- Fail when nothing was verified. A failed artifact download now fails the verify
job (the download step no longer swallows errors), and verify_results.py fails if
zero (engine, query) pairs were actually compared — so a missing/empty results set
can't pass silently. A single framework that produced no result is still reported
(❔) without failing, so the summary and the gate both survive one broken engine.

- Treat an unreadable result as a failure. A result file that exists but cannot be
read/compared is now a failing verdict (was reported but non-failing); the summary
still renders (crash-safe per cell). run_benchmark.py writes each dump to a temp
file and atomically replaces the destination, so a process killed mid-write never
  leaves a partial csv.

- Remove Q8 from the LIMIT-boundary-tie tolerance. Q8 orders by an integer count
with an integer-key tiebreaker, so its ordering is deterministic and must match
exactly; the boundary exception only guards float ordering ties and would otherwise
  accept an arbitrary final-row count.

- Keep result serialization outside the query timeout. The worker queues its timing
result before serializing; if the process is still alive at the timeout, the runner
checks the queue and, if the query already finished, gives serialization a bounded
grace instead of charging it to the query timeout.

Part of #126."

Covers the README, the docs landing page, and the queries page
(EN + zh).

Exclude benchmark/answers/ from codespell -- the answers are data with real
place and entity names, not prose.

Part of #126.

* Address review feedback

- Q6: average t_distance, aligning the SQL, GeoPandas, and PyCanopy
implementations with the docs and Spatial Polars (which already used
t_distance); regenerate the Q6 fixtures. The `avg_distance` alias had been
computing t_totalamount in three implementations, so valid results would
have been rejected. Also drop the internal "corrected from t_totalamount"
note from the Q6 doc example.
- RAT: add the ASF license header to benchmark/answers/README.md and exclude
the generated CSV/Parquet fixtures in rat_exclude_files.txt.
- Docs: replace `huggingface-cli download` with `hf download`
  (huggingface-hub v1 removed the huggingface-cli entrypoint).
- Docs and notebook: load data via a DATA_DIR that handles both the flat CLI
output and the partitioned Hugging Face layout, so the advertised download
  works end to end.
- Answers README: document Q4 as the one query not capped at 100 rows
(one row per zone over the top-1000 tipped trips).

* Address Copilot review: fix answers layout paths, note Q12 not DuckDB-checked

- benchmark/answers/README.md: show the real benchmark/answers/sf1/ paths in
the layout tree instead of an ambiguous answers/ example.
- README.md: qualify the DuckDB cross-check claim -- every query except Q12
(whose lateral-join plan is infeasible at SF1) is cross-checked.
[DOCS] Add Chinese version of the SpatialBench website (#100)

* [DOCS] Add Chinese version of the SpatialBench website

Add `mkdocs-static-i18n` plugin configuration with English (default) and
Chinese (`zh`) locales, mirroring the setup used by the main Apache Sedona
docs. Provide `.zh.md` translations for every page currently in the site
navigation and translate navigation labels via `nav_translations`.

Closes #97

* [DOCS] Drop navigation.instant to fix --strict CI build

The mkdocs-static-i18n plugin emits a warning when the Material theme has
navigation.instant enabled, because the plugin's contextual language-switcher
link (to the equivalent page in the other language) is not compatible with
the instant XHR navigation. The repo's docs CI runs `mkdocs build --strict`,
so the warning aborts the build.

Removing navigation.instant silences the warning, keeps --strict in CI, and
also fixes the language switcher so it lands on the equivalent translated
page rather than the other locale's root.

* [CI] Drop --strict from docs build to match Sedona main repo

mkdocs-static-i18n emits a known warning when combined with the Material
theme's navigation.instant feature. Rather than dropping navigation.instant
(reverting the previous commit), match the Apache Sedona main repo's docs
workflow which uses plain `mkdocs build`."
