As the prime driving force of Java 8 is lambdas, so too underpinning NetBeans 8 are tools simplifying the process of using lambdas in new Java code, as well as tools for the probably even more significant task of migrating existing Java code to make use of lambdas. Learn about tools for converting your code to using Java 8 lambdas today.

Via RESTful Web Services you can expose your databases to internal partners in your organization, as well as to external 3rd parties. Turning a database into a set of RESTful Web Services is a trivial task if you use NetBeans, as this brand new article shows.

Prior to Java SE 8, interfaces in Java could contain only method declarations and no implementations, and any nonabstract class implementing the interface had to provide the implementation. This limitation made it almost impossible to extend the existing interfaces and APIs. To overcome this limitation, a new concept, called default methods, is introduced in Java SE 8. The default methods are fully implemented methods in an interface, and they are declared by using the keyword default. Because the default methods have some default implementation, they help extend the interfaces without breaking the existing code.

Via REST, you can create APIs that can be accessed and consumed by external applications. Each API provides access to a subset of data in your database. In this screencast, using an OracleDB, you are shown exactly how to do that.
