Replace ICU-based date/time comparison in TDML Runner with XMLGregorianCalendar

The TDML date/time comparison previously used the DFDLDate/Time/DateTimeConversion
classes, which create ICU objects. This broke cross-testing against the IBM DFDL
cross tester, which depends on an older ICU version (e.g. it lacks Calendar.clone()).

Compare xs:date/time/dateTime values by parsing into XMLGregorianCalendar and using
its XSD order relation (compare()), keeping ICU off the comparison path entirely.

XMLGregorianCalendar implements XSD 1.0, which does not permit year zero, so it
rejects values like "0000-01-01". Two tests whose data uses year zero
(yearfromdate_03 and yearfromdatetime_03) are temporarily ignored as a result.
These expose a pre-existing Daffodil bug: Daffodil produces year-zero values that
are invalid under XSD 1.0, which needs to be addressed separately. The tests should
be re-enabled (or converted to negative tests) once that is resolved.

Broaden the catch in verifyParserTestData from XMLDifferenceException back to
Exception, so exceptions thrown transitively by compareAndReport's callees are
wrapped as TDMLExceptions. Restores the generic catch that was in place before
commit b9fb1e53ba95, which narrowed it to XMLDifferenceException.

DAFFODIL-3077

Add configurable gzip compression level

The gzip layer previously used GZIPOutputStream with the JDK's default
compression level (level 6), with no way for schemas to choose a different
level. This change exposes the speed-vs-size trade-off that the gzip format
already supports, giving users control over how their data is compressed
during unparsing.

As a side benefit, this fix also addresses cross-zlib test failures
observed on Fedora 42. Fedora's OpenJDK links against zlib-ng while
Temurin and most other distributions bundle stock zlib. Both produce valid
gzip output, but the deflate token streams differ due to different
match-finding heuristics, causing tests with hardcoded byte baselines to
fail on Fedora. For the small test data used in Daffodil's gzip tests,
level 9 happens to produce identical output on both implementations,
letting the tests pass regardless of which zlib is linked. This
convergence at level 9 is empirical, not guaranteed.

Changes:

- Add `compressionLevel` DFDL variable to the gzip layer schema, defaulting
to Deflater.DEFAULT_COMPRESSION (-1). Schemas can override via
`dfdl:newVariableInstance` or `dfdl:setVariable`, and users can set the
value externally without having to modify the schema.

- Add ConfigurableGZIPOutputStream, a GZIPOutputStream subclass that allows
the compression level to be set via constructor argument.

- Update GZipLayer to accept the compressionLevel variable via
setLayerVariableParameters and use it when constructing the output stream.

- Remove GZIPFixedOutputStream and the associated fixIsNeeded() method.
These existed to work around a pre-Java-16 bug where GZIPOutputStream
wrote 0x00 instead of the spec-compliant 0xFF for the gzip OS header
byte. Since Daffodil's minimum supported Java version is now 17, this
  workaround is no longer needed.

- Add `-parameters` to javac options This preserves Java parameter names in
bytecode, which is required by Daffodil's reflection-based layer parameter
resolution. Without this, Java setters appear with parameters named arg0/arg1/...
and cannot be matched to schema variables.

- Update test schemas (exampleGzipLayer.dfdl.xsd, exampleGzipLayer2.dfdl.xsd)
  to set compressionLevel=9 via newVariableInstance.

- Update TestGzipErrors.makeGZIPData to generate test input data at level 9
for byte-stable output across JVMs, with comments documenting the
  empirical nature of the convergence.

DAFFODIL-3082

Convert NodeInfo.Nothing from a lazy val to an object

The NodeInfo.Nothing instance has a `children` Delay member that never
actually gets evaluated. This is fine and not unexpected since Nothing
doesn't really have children and so nothing ever attempts to access or
need the member.

However, in some cases it is possible for the Nothing val to be
referenced in a serialized class (e.g. in a DPath expression object that
stores argument types such as fn:round-half-to-even) when creating a
saved parser. And because this Nothing has a Delay that is never
evaluated, it leads to an "object not initialized" exception, preventing
creating a saved parser.

To fix this issue, this changes NodeInfo.Nothing from a lazy val to an
object. Whether we use a lazy val or an object here really does not make
a difference with how we use it, but in Scala lazy vals are serialized
while objects are not--Scala only serializes object names which are used
to look up and return the singleton instance during deserialization.
This allows us to avoid all possible serialization issues, and also
changes Nothing to match the same pattern as all the other TypeNodes.

DAFFODIL-3079

Avoid possible serialization issues related to ArraySeq

The ArraySeq class has been known to cause deserialization failures
related to saving/reloading parsers because the class is written in a
way as to cause serialization sensitivity to changes in the class.

We don't use ArraySeq in any of our serialized classes, but Scala
implements varargs using ArraySeq, and we do use varargs in the
serialized CompiledDPath class. This can make serialized objects
sensitive to different versions of Scala if they make changes to the
class.

We do not need any of the features provided by ArraySeq or varargs, so
this converts the ops member of CompiledDPath to an Array, avoiding
potential deserialzation issues with future versions of Daffodil.

DAFFODIL-3073

Refactor CLI performance command to reduce overhead

In the CLI performance command, instead of creating one Future per
parse/unparse, this now creates one Future per thread, reducing the
number of Futures from potentially hundreds of thousands to a small
handful. Test data is now added to a ConcurrentLinkedQueue and the
Futures read from this queue until empty. Not only does this avoid a
large number of Future allocations, it also more closely mimics common
real world usage where there is a single serial producer and multiple
parallel consumers.

Also no longer store the results of each parse/unparse run to avoid
allocations. Instead we just keep track of the number of files processed
and the total latency and use those numbers to calculate average latency
at the end.

Also removes the Either allocation, match/case, and Timer functions in the
critical loop.

Reports vary about whether all these changes improve performance numbers
but they do not seem to make performance worse. And they do make the
results of profiling more clear with less allocations.

DAFFODIL-3064

Avoid large allocations related to specified length strings

When we need to parse a specified length string, we currently allocate a
buffer that can be reused to store the decoded string. The size of this
buffer is based on the maximumSimpleElementSizeInCharacters tunable,
which defaults to a fairly large size (1MB) that can be slow and put
added pressure on the garbage collector. Fortunately, this buffer is
allocated using a LocalBuffer so it is reused during a parse so at worst
there is only one allocation per parse. But when parsing many small
files that contain specified length strings, this overhead can become
noticable. And 1MB is likely orders of magnitude larger than the vast
majority of data formats will need for any single string element.

To address this, instead of using maximumSimpleElementSizeInCharacters,
we calculate how many characters the string could possible decode to
given the current bit position, bit limit, and encoding, and use that as
the buffer size to request. This way we only ever request and allocate a
large buffer is one is ever needed, which should be rare.

Note that this new logic requires bitLimit as part of specified string
parsing. That isn't available in the edge case of specified length
complex nillables. The specified length nil parser is modified to
handle this case.

This also modifies the LocalBuffer to allocate buffers of a reasonably
large minimum size of 1K. This way we will likely only ever need to
allocate a single buffer rather than allocating small buffers that have
to be reallocate as larger buffers are needed.

Tested with small NITF files (<4000 bytes) that contain lots of fixed
length strings, this saw about 30%+ performance improvements. Files
tested as large as 8000 bytes saw little or no change in performance.

DAFFODIL-2851
"

They are not meaningful for unparsing and
should not be supported. So we remove !e.isRepresented from the ElementBase
case. Unparsing should instead require IVC elements (minOccurs = maxOccurs = 1)
to appear in the infoset, even though their values are ignored at unparse
time. This behavior is more intuitive and is in line with IVC being MustExist in
unparserInfosetElementDefaultingBehavior and preserves expected branch selection semantics for
choice/dispatch constructs. Hidden IVCs remain permissible only within choice branches that
are not selected during unparse. Note that we will never select a default branch with a Hidden
IVC because it will always be canUnparseIfNoEvents=false

Deprecation/Compatibility
Per DFDL errata 5.60, the first branch that can be unparsed entirely without any infoset events (i.e. made up of elements that are dfdl:outputValueCalc, option branches, zero length arrays, or defaultable elements) in a choice is selected, rather than prioritizing the first empty branch. Also, required arrays are no longer treated as optional and hidden IVCs are only permissible in choices.

DAFFODIL-2324

Fix property scoping of default properties

Section 8.1.4, Rule 5 of the DFDL specification describes the
scoping/resolution of default properties, saying:

Obtain applicable "default" properties from a dfdl:format annotation
on the xs:schema that contains the component (if such annotation is
present). Combine these with the current working set of "default"
properties, the latter overriding the former (that is, inner wins).
Result is a new working set of "default" properties.

So if a schema component does not explicitly define a property, we
should look for default properties on the innermost components first.

But Daffodil currently does the reverse, looking at the default
properties of the outermost components first. This happens because we
build the default component property chain list recursively, prepending
the outermost components default chain to the list. This means wen we
scan for default values we look at the outermost chain first.

The solution to this is to reverse the default component chain so that
when we scan it for properties the innermost components appear first and
are given precedence.

Note that it is possible that some schemas unintentionally relied on
this buggy behavior, and it can sometimes be very difficult to figure
out which properties changed due to the change in property resolution.
To aid in debugging, we keep the old reversed list and when a property
is found in the default list, we also find it in the reversed default
list. If the property value found in the reversed list is different than
found using the correct list, this indicates the new logic could have
changed a relevant property value and we output a warning. In many cases
this can actually be ignored since the property values might not
actually matter, but when things break this can be a useful diagnostic.

Deprecation/Compatibility:

When resolving default properties, Daffodil now gives precedence to
innermost referenced schema components rather than the outermost, as
described by section 8.1.4 of the DFDL specification. If this new logic
results in a different property value than previous versions of
Daffodil then a schema definition warning is issued.

DAFFODIL-2855

Add DaffodilUnparseContentHandler.finish() function to SAX unparse API

When unparsing using the SAX API, if an XMLReader ends the parse early
(usually due to invalid XML), then it stops sending events to the
DaffodilUnparseContentHandler. This can lead to dangling threads since the
DaffodilUnparseCotentHandler and SAXInfosetInputter are coroutines,
which uses threads behind the scenes.

To fix this, we add a new finish() method to the
DaffodilUnparseContentHandler which should be called by SAX unparse API
users after the XMLReader parse completes, regardless of success. For
example,

    val contentHandler = dp.newContentHandlerInstance(...)
    xmlReader.setContentHandler(contentHandler)
    try {
      xmlReader.parse(...)
    } catch (...) {
      ...
    } finally {
      contentHandler.finish()
    }

The new finish function cleans up the coroutines setting the next event
to null, which indicates to the SAXInfosetInputter coroutine that no
more events are coming, ands leads to ending the unparse and the
coroutine. This now also means getUnparseResult will always return a
result, even if the XMLReader sees invalid XML, which makes our API a
bit more consistent.

Note that this discovered a case where the InfosetInputter.initialize()
method could throw an UnparseError if there was no StartDocument event,
which was not caught correctly. Fixing this requires moving the initialize call
inside the try/catch block, which is after the UState is created.
This means the UState can no longer assert that the InfosetInputter is
initialized, but this isn't necessary UState creation to succeed, as
long as the infoset inputter is initialized shortly thereafter.

- Change DaffodilUnhandledSAXException from a SAXException to a
RuntimeException. This exception generally indicatesa bug and so we
should not require that it be caught. Instead, it should be handled
  just like any other RuntimeException.

Deprecation/Compatibility:

A new DaffodilUnparseContentHandler.finish() method is added for users
of the SAX unparse API. This should be called at the end of the
XMLReader.parse() method to to ensure all internal state is cleaned up
and an unparse result is available. For example:

    DaffodilUnparseContentHandler contentHandler = dp.newContentHandlerInstance();
    xmlReader.setContentHandler(contentHandler);
    try {
        xmlReader.parse(...):
    } catch (...)
        ...
    } finally {
        contentHandler.finish();
    }
    UnparseResult ur = contentHandler.getUnparseResult();

Deprecation/Compatibility:

The DaffodilUnhandledSAXException, which can be thrown when unparsing
using the SAX API and usually indicates a Daffodil bug, is changed from
a SAXException to a RuntimeException. It is no longer a checked
exception and does not need to be caught. It should usually be handled
just like any other unchecked RuntimeException.

DAFFODIL-2768

Ensure if-expressions converge to a primitive type

Commit 6650eb918e modified if-expressions to use typeLeastUpperBound
instead of generalizeArgAndResultTypesForNumericOp to calculate the
result type of the if-expression. The thinking was that if-expressions
aren't really numeric operations and so shouldn't use the same logic.

However, typeLeastUpperBound can return non-primitive types which can
lead to issues. For example, if one branch of an if-expression returns
xs:double and the other returns xs:int, then the least upper bound is
SignedNumeric, which is not a primitive type and can lead to failures in
cases where DPath operations require an actual type.

We fix this by reverting back to using generalizeArgAndResultTypesForNumericOp.
Although this function is intended for numeric operations, the same
logic of promoting different numeric types to a single primitive type is
needed for if-expressions. And it is not too far fetched to say that if
the branches of an if-expression are numeric, then the if-expression is
essentially a numeric operation.

DAFFODIL-2574

Prefer xs:double over xs:decimal for numeric operations

Commit 6650eb918e modified numeric operations so that if the args did
not have any common parent type (e.g. xs:double and xs:int) then we
always promoted to xs:decimal. However, this caused tiny changes in
precision for some operations so could lead to minor backwards
incompatibilities.

This modifies the logic so we only promote numeric operations to
xs:decimal if one of the args is a xs:nonNegativeInteger, xs:integer, or
xs:decimal (i.e. arbitrary-precision types). If neither arg is
arbitrary-precision, then it means both args have finite precision
(xs:float, xs:double, xs:long, xs:unsignedLong, or subtype) and so we
promote to xs:double. This should give more efficient performance,
maintains fixed-precision/width operations, and maintains backwards
compatibility with previous versions of Daffodil.

DAFFODIL-2574

Correct numeric operations

The current logic of numeric operations using in DFDL expressions is not
correct in a couple of ways

First, numeric operations using shorts and bytes are just broken and can
least to ClassCastExceptions. The main reason is that Java promotes
short and byte operations to ints but our logic did not account for
that, so data values had ints when we expected short/byte.

Second, the currently logic does not correctly implement the XPath 2.0
specification for numeric operations. For example, if two arguments have
a least upper bound of SignedNumeric we cast them to Double. An example
where this breaks if xs:double and xs:decimal, which has a least upper
bound of SignedNumeric. These should should be promoted to Decimal
instead of Double. We also did not handle underflow/overflow correctly.
For example, xs:long(xs:byte(255) + xs:byte(1)) results in an out of
range error rather than correctly returning xs:long(256).

This changes our numeric operations fix these problems and match the
XPath 2.0 spec.

To achieve this we first promote numeric operands to one of decimal,
integer, double, float, or long, based on the least upper bound of the
operand types. Java does not perform any type promotion with these, so
it avoids accidental changes of expected types. Note that we long where
possible to maintain performant operations, rather than simply promoting
everything to xs:integer as implied by the XPath 2.0 specification. This
does mean underflow/overflow is possible, but this is much less likely.
Note that such overflow will not be detected in intermediate operations,
but will be detect if the result does not fit withing the range of the
target type.

This also changes the results of div and idv operations to return
Decimal/Float/Double or Integer/Long for similar reasons.

This means many of the NumericOps can not be removed (e.g. PlusShort)
since the set of types we perform operations on is much smaller. We also
update the NumericOps implementations to use DataValue's, since we know
exactly what the types should be, rather than relying on asFoo to
convert the operand to the expected type.

This also changes the resulting type of numeric if-branches. This are
only promoted to the least upper bound rather than also doing the
numeric operation conversions. The numeric results can will be promoted
if then used in a numeric operation.

DAFFODIL-2574
"
